Thank you Elbo Room, Chicago Roots Collective, all the bands and all the fans who helped make the Chicago Roots Collective Festival a great time last night.

That’s gonna be a hard show to beat, but we’re sure gonna try. Specifically, we’ll be trying at the Hideout on Nov 27 for The Big Tranny Hootenanny. It’s a benefit for our good friend, Owen, who is in need of surgery, but is also in need of the funds to go through with said surgery.

The Homoticons, Cobalt & the Hired Guns, Andrew Brown, and Kareem Khubchandani will heroically play sets starting at 9pm. Afterward, Ang Peoples DJ Collective provide music for the DANCE PARTY!! Yes. You read that right. Dance party. This is going to be awesome. And all to help a friend in need.

So, come, listen, dance and have fun, you won’t even realize you’re doing your good deed for the day.

THIS WEEKEND: Chicago Roots Collective Festival

This weekend is the Chicago Roots Collective Festival. Which means, 75 bands/musicians performing over two nights at the Elbo Room! All that music AND $2 Old Styles.

Cobalt & the Hired Guns performs the 2nd night, Saturday Nov 6, and shares the downstairs stage with How Far to Austin, Todd Kessler & the New Folk, Mike Mangione & the Union, and The Future Laureates. Upstairs, singer/songwriters Andrew Francis, Jeff Churchwell, Jane Thatcher, Shelley Miller, Bassel Al-Madani, Daina Lawrence, Matt Campbell, Michael Kostal, and Bobby Minelli showcase their, well, singing and songwriting.

The first night of the Festival, Friday Nov 5, features BandCalledCatch,The Shams Band, Goodbyehome, Molehill, and Jackpot Donnie on the downstairs stage, while Jack Brett, Rachele Eve, Brendan Losch, Katie Scrantom, Dan Price, Will Phalen, Jessica Robbins, Kevin Garvey, Nelken and Nathan Xander do their thang upstairs.

Tickets are $10 for Friday, $10 for Saturday, or $15 for a weekend pass. The music starts at 8pm, 21+ both nights.

Oh and did we mention the $2 Old Syles??? Yea. That.

You have to give them props for being so organized and really representing what a music scene is supposed to be about – community. In Cobalt’s music, it comes through, in their lyrics, in their personalities, interactions with one another and with their fans.

We are honored to have been selected as a finalist for the Deli Magazine’s Chicago band-of-the-Month poll! We are also happy to be in such good company, especially with our Chicago Roots Collective brethren Band Called Catch.

SO now we need your vote! It takes anywhere from 1.5 – 2.3 seconds to do, and we really appreciate it. If we come out on top, our gorgeous faces and logo will be the big banner at the top of their site, and we would win some recording time to lay down our new songs like “Uptown” and “Like You Like Me.” note: you can only vote once per IP address. Introducing the CHICAGO ROOTS COLLECTIVE

We are very pleased to announce our involvement as a founding member of the Chicago Roots Collective – a group of 10 great Chicago bands working together to build community and get their music heard.It’s a VERY exciting project that has come out of the Chicago Bluegrass and Blues Festival we played last fall – we are really pumped to be working more formally with bands we already know, love, and have been playing with around the city. It has already proven to be a great resource and community for all the bands involved.
